What is a Donburi?
Donburi (ò•, lit. "bowl", less commonly
spelled "domburi")
There are diverse Japanese foods and donburi is one of the most
common.
The name donburi comes from the bowl which is a little bigger
than a rice bowl. When you put dishes on rice in a donburi, they
become donburi dishes. There are many kinds of donburi, such
as Oyakodon -- rice and chicken topped with boiled eggs. It is
called "oyako" because this dish is made of chicken
(parent=oya) and eggs (child=ko). Some places use duck instead
of chicken. It is said that people stand in line to eat oyakodon
at one store in Tokyo from morning 'til night. This is one
of the most easily made donburi dishes.
